Hyperlite Northeast Tour Stops by Pittsburgh

Of all of the wakeboard brands out there, Hyperlite gives our area the most attention. This past summer the Hyperlite rep and some pro riders made stops at Lake Milton, Conneaut Lake, Erie & Pittsburgh. There goal was to show everyone the new Hyperlite product and to introduce riders to the System Bindings. I got a chance to ride the Systems in Columbus this summer and they were awesome.

When Life Gives You Lemons We Baywatch

Another lazy day on the Mon River near downtown Pittsburgh. Unfortunately, there were 30 mph wind gusts that made wakeboarding not much fun and we left the surf board on the dock. Our Solution: Baywatching (jumping off the boat at high speeds), Jet Ski Sinking, Diving to the bottom of the Mon River to see who could pick up the biggest rock, Water balloon fights and pier jumping. All in all one of the better days I have had this summer. Enjoy the video.

A Wakeboard Weekend

Went down to Ten Mile to do some single wide camping, pimped out golf cart riding, campfire grilling and a little bit of wakeboarding. Did I mention we burned through 48 gallons of gas in a little under four hours in the X-Star. I guess that is what happens when you weight the shit out of it…

Jimmy LaRiche at Nav Co

The Navigation Company up in Conneaut Lake is having a Hyperlite Demo day with Pro rider Jimmy LaRiche on Thursday, June 16th 2011. Unfortunately I have a Statistics midterm that same day so I will be unable to make it but you should go. They will have a ton of Hyperlite gear for you to try including the new Hyperlite System boots and Jimmy’s new pro model board the “Franchise”. I got to ride the System boots a couple weekends ago in Columbus and I was impressed.

Why not come and see for yourself why Jimmy Lariche and his System Bindings work so well at dominating the sport. We are going to hold this event on Conneaut Lake right next to the shop Thursday June 16th. Total of 16 slots available at $20 for a half hour slot. Don’t worry, for $20 you can hang out at the dock all day and swim, ride the stand up, surf, check out the new gear and get some tips from Jimmy. The conditions should be great as far as boat traffic, we hope that it won’t rain.. If it does and we have to cancel than of course we will refund your $20. Jimmy LaRiche has developed his first Pro Model for Hyperlite, the Franchise! The name of the board touches on Jim’s importance to the Hyperlite team but it also represents his philosophy about the shape. The goal was to create a long lasting, innovative shape that everyone can hop on and in one ride feel as if they are home. A continuous rocker of 2.65” lays the foundation for a fast board that carves and edges with ease. The Franchise rocker is largest continuous rocker in the Hyperlite line providing maximum pop off the wake. The innovative and industry first Tapered Channels narrow at the tip and tail aligning the Dual Fin Configuration to increase the boards edge hold on approach to the wake. With any approach style, the Franchise will deliver a pop off the wake like no other. The overall profile of the board and reduced tip and tail profile reduce swing weight for simple rotation on flat and inverted spins. On landings we found that Jim never touched down dead flat, the Franchise incorporates 2 soft landing spins for cushy entries on either edge. HMS Bust Largeness Video

Despite the rain, locals and vacationers alike took to the shores of Deep Creek Lake, Maryland for the annual Bust Largness wakeboard competetion put on by High Mountain Sports. With Greg Rouse behind the wheel and boats courtesty of Bill’s Marine Service and Deep Creek Marina, the riders stuck out the weather for a great time and some prizes too.

1st place in the Outlaw Division went to Tim Pritske of Pittsburgh, 2nd place to local Justin Boston, 3rd place to Richie Dellinger, and 4th place to Bill Freeman.

Red Bull National Wake

On Saturday, July 31st, Pro Wakeboarders will decend on the Mid-Atlantic for two wakeboard events. First, Bay Watersports will host Wakefest 2010, a grassroots wakeboard contest at Lake Anna, VA. After the contest everyone will head north to DC to watch Parks, JD Webb, Adam Errington, Brian Grubb and some of the best riders from the contest kill it on Red Bull’s crazy sliders on the Potomac River. The banks of the Potomac are about to see something special. Red Bull athletes and Professional Wakeboarders Brian Grubb, Parks Bonifay, JD Webb, and Adam Errington are taking their beloved sport to National Harbor in Washington, DC. They will fly, they will soar, they will wow the crowd with wild airs and double overhead sprays of the Potomac River.

These tremendous water athletes will be flying off of custom made features built especially for National Harbor. Towed by Red Bull Waverunners, Grub, Bonifay, Webb and Errington, along with some local wakeboarders (picked from the contest at Lake Anna earlier in the day, see flyer below), will put on quite a show for National Harbor visitors.

Ohio visits Pittsburgh

Last weekend the crew from Lake Milton, Ohio came down to downtown Pittsburgh for a day wakeboarding on the three rivers. They had recently destroyed all of their camera equipment so they put this together with a mixture of cell phones and a waterproof camera. Hooray for getting it done!
